Voice of the Martyrs….

VOM monthly newsletter…

“The hands bearing chains can bless well”

These were words that I wrote down when a Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) representative facilitated the last session of my church’s first Boot Camp a few weeks ago. The organization has been serving persecuted churches since 1967 and she was there to inform us about what was going on with other christians in the world.

Before the first video was even finished I was already sniffling and could barely hold back tears. In one video, based on actual events, there were some christians and non christians traveling on a bus in another country. The bus was hijacked, they were all taken off the bus (men, women and children), tied up and eventually executed. One of the christians started worshiping God and he was shot…his last fleeting thought was that he didn’t get to tell his persecutors about Jesus. Miraculously he survived and was now ministering Jesus to those who tried to kill him!!

God is!

awesome creation attest to an awesome Creator!!

awesome creation attest to an awesome Creator!!

Today a post caught my eye that led me to investigate the official page for American Atheists. As I was poking around I came across some very interesting trains of thoughts and many attacks against Christians (some of which are true).

One question posed generated a plethora of responses: “If you used to be religious, what caused you to become atheist? The answers were interesting and quite varied. However this quote caught my eye:

“I’ve never been insulted by hateful Satanists for not believing in their devil, only by loving Christians for not believing in their God.”

Truthfully, I could feel a little anger and irritation rising inside of me as I read some of the rhetoric, and it prompted me to write this quick post and ask this question:

How do you handle people who mock you for believing in God, those who say there is no God and those who are still waiting on proof of an awesome God??

Sunday notes…..Now and When.

pigeons in Charleston

What’s your definition of faith? For most, its a total dependence on God. But my Pastor gave such a beautiful and apt definition yesterday that I thought it worthy to share to the world: a willingness to anticipate God. That means we don’t focus on the NOW that we’re in, we focus on the WHEN God has promised!

Did you get it? 🙂 God has made so many promises to us but as soon as there’s a hitch somewhere we get off focused. We focus on the NOW.

Right NOW my body might be in pain, but WHEN….

Right NOW my business is struggling, but WHEN…

Right NOW I might not like the job that I have, but WHEN…

Right NOW my kids seem to have lost their minds, but WHEN…

Right NOW my marriage is a little rocky, but WHEN…

Right NOW my ministry is struggling to grow, but WHEN…

Right NOW I might be a piece of work, but WHEN God gets His hands on me…..

Some of us can look back on when we were all pieces of work and if you or those around you had focused on your NOW they wouldn’t have waited around to anticipate what God was up to. Those kids that had you praying hard when they were teenagers, but they have turned into beautiful productive young men and women. That marriage that started out rocky and ify but the latter is now better than the former.

Even our own lives; some of us never thought we would ever stop sleeping around, drinking, smoking, cussing, lying and stealing etc. But God had a WHEN 🙂

So today, I would like to encourage you to not focus or be distracted by what you are in right NOW….focus, anticipate and prepare for God’s WHEN!

Please share this and encourage someone else; especially someone who is struggling in their NOW. (sometimes all we need is a different perspective)

Be Blessed
